I recently watched an inspiring talk by a woman named Jessica Jackley (photo above) on ted.com. She started kiva.org, a website that allows people to help others through microlending. Instead of donating our money through companies who say that they will give them to or buy supplies for the poor, we lend a poor person (as little as) $25, at no interest. This is for them to start a business (a capital) so that they become self-sufficient. As their business prosper and when they have enough, they would pay us our money back. It's a new concept to me and I find it very interesting. Watch the video to learn more about kiva.org and how you can help. It's not a recent video but I think it's still very much relevant now.
On a side note, if you've never heard of ted.com, it's a website full of talks that are hosted all over the world regarding modern day issues and ideas.
