Refreshed and Ready

fitnessmagazine.com
This is not a beauty post. It's perhaps an announcement. Or a warning. Regardless, I just want to let you guys know that I'm back! I've been away the past two weeks, visitng The Pearl of the Orient. I will tell you of my adventures in my next few posts. I'm refreshed (from the vacation) and ready (to take the beauty blogging world by storm again). However, I will not be posting twice a week anymore. I am cutting back to once a week due to my heavy schedule this year. But fear not! Whenever I find the spare time, I will write extra posts.

For now, here's what you can look forward to reading:

My haul during my recent vacation
My impression/review of the hair extensions that I've been trying out
More reviews on makeup and skincare products
Some how-to arts and crafts

Keep your eyes peeled for my next post!

Wicked Wednesday: That Time of the Year...

Yes, it's that time of the year again. Yes, it is Halloween today but that's not what I'm referring to. I'm talking about exams. End of semester exams! Eeeks!

marcellapurnama.wordpress.com
Unfortunately, I'm terrible at concentrating if I have my blog to worry about. So I'm going on hiatus, again. But fret not, my pet! I promise will be back with more reivews and tutorials that you hopefully will love. For those of you who will be sitting for exams like I will be, I wish you the best of luck!

See you in two weeks. And Happy Halloween!

P.S. Feel free to leave a comment on what posts you'd like me to write on this blog when I return.

Pink on the Lips... and Cheeks!

It's the last day of September and tomorrow marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I've decided to set myself a challenge to wear pink on my lips every day, whenever I'm out and about, for the month of October. Why? To raise awareness and to keep reminding people of this debilitating disease is still very much prevalent in our society.

I don't want to bombard you with all the facts and figures because I necessarily agree with the ones that are commonly preached to us. This may come across as a surprise to you but (at this point) I am skeptical of mammograms. Yes, I agree that early detection is without a doubt vital but I believe that we need to develop better techniques to test for breast cancer. Both my parents are health care professionals (HCPs) and in a few years time I will be one as well. My parents have spoken with some HCPs, with their field of interest being breast cancer, who feel that women who have mammograms done annually are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer. We're speculating that mammograms may actually be contributing to high occurrence of breast cancer. In simple terms, it emits very high radiation, which damages cells. For a better understanding, I encourage you to read this article. This is not an airy-fairy conspiracy theory. It is backed up by studies and research.

I know this goes against what cancer councils and majority of doctors say. I can tell you now that I am with the minority and I am against mammograms. My lecturer has sung praises for mammograms but I think that there is still much to be desired. Better diagnostic techniques need to be developed and this will hopefully come with more research. So in October, I am going to combine my love for beauty with my contribution to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. I am going to purchase a Pink Product, in addition to wearing pink on my lips every day. No prize for guessing which one I'm going to purchase!

Bobbi Brown's Pink Peony Set! Bobbi Brown will donate $14 for every one these sets sold.

So I guess I will actually be pink on the lips and cheeks for the month of October!

What will you be doing for Breast Cancer Awareness Month? Do share!

Wicked Wednesday: If You Have a Lot of Time to Kill...

As promised in the winners announcement post, here are the videos that I've made.

In these videos, you'll get to hear suggestions/comments made by other entrants. I also let you know my thoughts on them and give you an idea as to which requests I will be fulfiling! I apologise for the poor quality; I was using my brother's old film camera. Forgive me for the length, there were 98 entries to go through! I ended up cutting a lot of them out. What and you'll see why!

I spent A LOT of time filming and editing these videos and trying to upload them onto Youtube. I hope you liked them! Fingers crossed that you don't feel like I have wasted half an hour of your lives...

What do you think of the videos? Should I make the occasional video or just stick to writing?

Not Another One...

Dear Readers,

Unfortunately, this blog is going on hiatus... again. I'm really sorry but I will be busy for the next two weeks. I'm forecasting that I will not have the time to blog. However, I will do my best to squeeze in a post or two if and whenever I can.

Regards,
Ty

B.I.A.: Back In Action

It's a bit hard to believe that it's been a month since I last posted on my blog! Boy, did time fly? I said I would resume posting once GAMSAT is over but I'm afraid it won't be as frequent as I did during the summer holidays, no thanks to my heavy uni work load. If you do want to hear about my experience with GAMSAT and some tips on how to prepare and sit for it, please drop a request in the comments section.

Over the past few weeks, I've been toying with the idea of getting a fringe/bangs. It all started with Zooey Deschanel's new series, New Girl, which is one of my current favourite TV shows. Her character, Jessica Day, is so cute and quirky and I love her weird sense of style. It's not hilarious but it's thoroughly entertaining (and addictive if I may add) to watch. I also love how she wears big waves and curls in her hair. However, in the latest episodes, Zooey straightened her hair, which I don't like as much. So if you want a bit of a laugh or some form of amusement, watch it.

Now, back to the topic on fringes, I've become obssessed with full blunt fringe type of looks. I had a fringe two years ago but I grew it out within a couple of months. I just couldn't handle feeling something on my forehead constantly. And even though it was at least an inch away from my eyes, I kept feeling like it was irritating and brushing against them. Perhaps, I've become so vain that I might just put up with them this time? I'm holding back at the moment because my hair is thinning and I can't imagine how much thinner it'd look with a lot of the long strands snipped to make a fringe, especially since I'm after a heavy fringe. Here are some photos of bangs that I really like.

*Sighs* Doesn't Zooey just have the nicest hair?

Do you have a fringe? Are you a big fan of them?

I will be busy the next few weeks, studying and preparing for a big exam (possibly one of the biggest in my life!). So here I am now, apologising in advance for going on hiatus. Fear not! The giveaway will continue to run while I'm away (refer to banner on the top right corner of this blog). So keep those entries coming in people!

Hopefully, when I get back into posting for this blog, I will have more beauty, art and life insights to share with you. Before I go, I would like to introduce a few of my favourite quotes to you, to carry you through my absence.

"Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts." - Charles Dickens.

"It's a fine thing to be honest, but it is also very important to be right." - Winston Churchill

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I know it has been more than a month since I last posted something. I've been busy with exams, moving, visitors and the summer course that I've been forced to take (no thanks to the degree that I'm studying). To make things worse, our new place still doesn't have internet. I've been surviving on mobile internet for more than a month now. Hence, the lack of activity on this blog.

Anyway, to keep this post short and sweet. I'll be making more time to post once I get proper internet. Yes, that means more ramblings about beauty, hauls, arts & crafts and anything remotely worth my acknowledgement! I should probably add that to my New Year's resolution list.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and good break from all the stress from studying/work. Whoever you are, my dear reader, I hope the year 2012 brings you many wonderful things (not necessarily just material things!) and I wish you best of luck with all your endeavours!

P.S. The well wishes made to you, the reader, were based on the assumption that you are a good person. :)

Giveaway coming!

I notice that my Total Pageview increases whenever I check in on my blog. I don't know if it means that people (yes, you!) have been reading my blog. Or people are just "blog-hopping".

Scenario
"Oooh! This blog sounds interesting! "
*clicks on link to Ty's Blog of Epiphanies*
*looks at first post*
"Meh!"
*clicks on link to a different blog*

Don't worry, guys. I'm not offended. The purpose of my blog is so that I can brush up on my writing skills. However, I do love the notion of having heaps of people reading my blog and loving it to bits! That's in an ideal world. This is the real world. Meaning less than 10 followers for me.

So, I've decided that I will throw a giveaway, like a lot of the beauty blogs that I follow do. This is to boost the number of followers to my blog. Yes, I'm cheating but hey, you stand a chance to win some serious goodies! My target audience will be females unles a large number of male followers voice their presence. Okay, it all sounds good so far. So what's the catch? I will only post the giveaway once I hit a hundred followers.

What?! You might say. From 7 followers (currently) to 100? That would take FOREVER! Well, no. It won't. It may sound like a huge gap to fill but going by the way my pageview increases on a daily basis, if everyone who visited my blog followed, we'd hit 100 within a week!

Okay, so where's the guarantee? What if I go back on my word? Well, you guys trust all the other bloggers. Why not me? I'll try to give a sneak peak at around the 50 mark. I'll start gathering the goodies. For now, I can only tell you 2 things you must do to qualify for the prize.

1. You must be an Australian resident
2. You must follow my blog via Google Friend Connect.

Will keep you guys posted with more deets! If you have any suggestions as to how my blog can be improved or what you would like to see me write about, please drop a comment. I won't bite. In fact, I'd love you for the constructive criticism! Try not to be harsh though. Thank you!
